HEALTH PROMOTER
Permanent Full Time
Monday to Friday – 7 hours/day
Wabasca, Alberta
Bigstone Health Commission in Wabasca, Alberta is seeking an experienced and competent Health Promoter to join our talented Health Team. This role will provide leadership and work collaboratively with the partners, participants, community and peers in identifying and prioritizing current and emerging health care and support needs to inform local planning activities; and identifying gaps in care and service approaches. The primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create innovative strategies (including use of social media) for promoting health that are culturally appropriate, are community-based, and engages all stages of the life-cycle
- Collaborates with staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion
- Facilitates linkages with appropriate services, supports and resources
- Promotes awareness of Bigstone Health Commission’s services and programs
- Promotes the importance and benefits of healthy eating, active living and positive mental well-being in children and youth through education and awareness
- Establish networks in the community and work with other agencies to coordinate health promotion
- Support, promote and advocate for the development and implementation of policies that support healthy living
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum 2-3 years health promotion experience in community-based organization or related field
- Experienced with community-based health care and knowledge of community-based resources, health promotion theory, quality improvement and evaluation
- Demonstrated experience with project /program management and program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Possess strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Possess an understanding of different cultural approaches to health
